I’M EMILY AND I’M so GLAD YOU’RE HERE!
I’ve always loved a good story.
Before I became a Duke-certified coach, specializing in supporting medical and healthcare professionals, I worked in TV news for almost 20 years. Throughout my career, I’ve been immersed in incredible stories from amazing people. And it was the greatest privilege to be the person ensuring those stories were heard.
Throughout a career that took me all the way to the White House to interview the President of the United States, the stories that caught my heart and stayed with me were the ones involving medicine, health and wellness.
I felt deeply connected to the doctors saving lives, the researchers coming up with amazing innovations, and the people who had survived difficult health challenges and were now thriving.
Then, COVID-19 happened. Reporting on the pandemic every day, speaking to the healthcare workers on the front lines, was one of the toughest things I’ve ever done. I was on the verge of burnout. I couldn’t let go of what was happening in the world. I couldn’t distance myself from the heartbreaking stories from healthcare workers. I couldn’t sit there and tell these stories anymore.
I was drained, exhausted and knew something had to change.
But news had been my life for so long, I wasn’t sure what to do next.
I knew I wanted to help people, and I had a deep interest in health and wellness because of my own experience of burnout. I also felt incredibly connected to the medical professionals who had pushed so hard, for so long, to care for others and were now paying the price.
And so, I was led to coaching.
Not only did it feel like a way to help healthcare workers in crisis but, by supporting them, to also help the thousands of patients they care for every day.
Now, as a Duke-certified coach, I combine my open mind, natural curiosity and love of stories with my knowledge of health and wellness to help medical and health professionals find balance, joy and empowerment.
My values
Compassion
Burnout recovery is a process that needs caring and warmth. It’s not your fault you got here, and in order to heal you need to care for yourself. I’ll support you to reach a space of self-compassion, and provide a nurturing space for you to explore what you need without any judgement.
authenticity
I keep it real, always. We can’t deny that we live in a world that demands a lot of us – and we need to be real about what we deal with on a daily basis, what will and won’t work for us, and what our individual needs are. That’s the only way to create sustainable burnout prevention strategies for ourselves.
JOY
Joy is the antidote to burnout. It’s not about being happy all the time (that would be weird and unhealthy), it’s about rediscovering joy in the little things around you. When we’re in burnout, joy feels so far away – so we focus on how we can bring small sparks of joy back into the everyday.
empowerment
If you want to turn burnout around, you have to believe you have the power to make a change – and you have to be ready to make a change. If you’ve always lived your life in burnout cycles and you keep doing what you’ve always done, it will be impossible to break free.
